Private Kocaeli Bahçeşehir Anatolian High School is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education—that we believe is important for our students.

* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

For further information about the IB and its programmes visit http://www.ibo.org

Private Kocaeli Bahçeşehir Anatolian High School is now accepting registrations for an exclusive offer for Kocaeli parents. We are now a candidate school for the IBDP. We plan to open this programme from September 2017. As of 2015, we have already opened an exclusive modified G9 class which has been repeated again this academic year.  These classes will stay together throughout G9 and G10 and follow a differentiated programme to prepare the students for studying the IBDP which they would begin in 2017. This includes:

  • maximum of 20 students in the class
  • extra English lessons
  • other subjects taught in English
  • improved laboratory and library facilities
  • focus on ICT and digital learning
  • direct access to IBDP in G11
  • expert help in applying to international universities

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma Programme, is an international pre-university educational programme that has become a symbol of academic excellence worldwide. This program encourages international understanding, inquiry and develop critical thinking skills. The language of instruction is English in Turkey with some subject exceptions .

The International Baccalaureate Organization started in Geneva in Switzerland. It now has three global centres in Bethseda (US), the Hague, and in Singapore. Today, worldwide, there are 2,795 schools in 143 countries offering the IB diploma with students.  The IBDP is recognised and accepted by 3,300 universities in 90 countries. The programme is international and is not limited to any one national system. The IB offers students an excellent education and at the same time, promotes intercultural understanding and respect.

Modified programme in G9 and G10

This programme will continue to fulfil the requirements of the MEB national diploma curriculum. This will include the selection of Maths/Science and Turkish/Maths tracks for G11.

However, in preparation for the rigors and opportunities of the potential IBDP there will be increased English lessons and Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics will be taught in English throughout G9 and G10. There will also be a critical thinking course.

We have refurbished our High School building for September 2016 to provide our community with a top quality education in both Anadolu Lisesi and potential IBDP programmes to meet the standards expected of a modern global educational programme. This will house purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities which will include science laboratories (3: Biology, Chemistry & Physics) and library. The library will be resourced digitally and in hard-copy including areas suitable for guided and independent study.

Opportunities after school – University preparation.

The IBDP is an international benchmark qualification recognised by universities all over the world. It enables direct entrance into universities in, for example, Canada and the UK. It provides the opportunity for scholarships and/or course credits in Vakıf universities in Turkey and in universities in the US.

Whatever your preferred destination, the counselling department will help to prepare your child for the next level of their learning. We have many years of experience of helping our students enter Turkish universities. We also work with the International Office, Bahçeşehir’s agency for entry to international universities. Also at Private Kocaeli Bahçeşehir Anatolian High School we will work directly with the official representatives in Turkey of many British universities.

Our Curriculum

The curriculum in our high school has two separate strands; the normal Anatolian High School programme and the modified High School programme taught mostly in English. This modified programme prepares students for international programmes.

The normal Anatolian High School programme prepares students through the regular Turkish Ministry of Education curriculum content and assessment structure. Students choose their specialist track in G11, either Maths/Science or Turkish/Maths and the number of lessons in all subjects differ according to this choice. Students prepare for the national university entrance examinations.

The modified programme covers the same subjects in G9 and G10 but has an extended English language component and Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are studied in English. In G11 and G12 students will study Turkish literature, English as a second language as well as Mathematics and a science and extra subjects will be offered such as environmental sciences, business studies and a course based on learning about knowledge and what we know. Students will also have the opportunity to research and complete an extended thesis style work, and be involved, both in and out of school in projects that develop the arts, sports and community service.

These students will also complete the Turkish national diploma and can apply for universities both in Turkey and internationally.

Clubs and Activities

We offer a range of interesting and beneficial clubs and activities to our students that can be done both in club time during the weekly timetable and outside of school time.

These clubs and activities range across creative areas such as folk dancing, traditional ebru artwork, and theatre and music; across action and sporting activities such as basketball, football, sub-aqua diving, and swimming; and community service projects such as the social responsibility club, helping in a retirement home and working at school with local autistic children.
